Flora's House sleeps up to five guests in three bedrooms and is located in the picturesque sheep farming township of Kenmore in the Scottish Highlands on the spectacular Applecross Peninsula. 'A Chomraich' is the Gaelic name for Applecross and true to its name, it really is 'The Haven' where peace and tranquility abound.

For those who love spectacular scenery, wonderful walks, wildlife and are seeking the chance to truly be at one with nature, this beautiful part of the Highlands is the perfect holiday choice. A place where once visited, you will want to return to time and time again.

Sitting in an elevated position, Flora's House nestles amongst communal grazing land and affords a private position, accessed via a stone bridge and track (family cars should have no problem driving along the track). With an open fire in the sitting room and log burner in the dining room, the cottage is cosy and welcoming at any time of the year. Enjoy winter nights curled up in front of the fire with a good book; and alfresco dining during the warmer months soaking up the stunning views over the surrounding scenery.

Applecross Peninsula was once only reached by boat and it was not until the 1970's that it became accessible by road. Even today the roads are small and this stunning area remains one of Scotland's most unspoilt havens. Alive with wildlife; snipe, cuckoo's otters, porpoise, sea eagles and even dolphins can be spotted in the sea loch and land surrounding the cottage and Kenmore. Pine marten are also regular visitors to the cottage garden and very entertaining, especially if you leave them little treats on the window sill!

The surrounding area is a vast outdoor playground for outdoor enthusiasts with some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere, providing a perfect backdrop for a whole range of pursuits. Wonderful walks can be enjoyed in any season with spring and autumn bringing with them vibrant colours. Bird watching, cycling, mountaineering, fishing and kayaking are also popular activities with endless opportunities for land and water lovers alike.

For those who can tear themselves away from the beauty of the Peninsula, the Isle of Skye is within easy driving distance (via the bridge) as is Eilean Donan Castle, the picturesque village of Plockton and Inverewe and also Gairloch Gardens. Closer to home, Applecross with its excellent pub serving the freshest of seafood is fifteen miles along the coast road and Shieldaig where there is a hotel and grocery store is seven miles.

Cosy and welcoming, Flora's House is well equipped and comprises:

Bright and cheerful kitchen with electric oven/hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, slow cooker and plenty of pots, glasses, crockery etc.

Rustic cosy sitting room with windows that let the outside flood in and provide fantastic views over the surrounding scenery. An open fire, comfy seating and television (with Digibox) enhance guests comfort.

Dining room with table and six chairs, plus log burner - the perfect place to enjoy supper in front of the fire whilst catching up on the days adventures.

Bathroom with WC, wash basin, bath and heated towel rail.

Upstairs
Double bedroom with two sky lights providing a light and airy atmosphere.

Twin bedroom which affords an en-suite bathroom which leads through into...
Small single bedroom ideal for a child.

Outside: There is a sheltered patio area with picnic table/chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine or supper as the sun sets, and a grass area where deck-chairs can be placed to sit and admire the spectacular views - what better way to start and end the day!

At the back of the cottage is a store room with washing machine.
Off-road parking next to the garden.

Additional information:
Pets are welcome providing owners clear up after them and they do not worry the sheep that graze freely near the cottage and around Kenmore.

Unfortunately short breaks cannot be accepted.

Please bring your own bed linen and towels (duvet covers, under-sheets, pillowcases, towels and tea towels).

Hot water is provided via the open fire in the sitting room that has a back boiler and there is also an immersion heater for back-up if needed) - Coal is provided for the open fire in the sitting room.

Wi-Fi internet access available for those who need to stay in touch.

Prices include electricity. Water at the cottage (and all the properties in Kenmore) has a slight taste of peat as it is supplied from the local loch (fresh water) in the hills before going through a filtration system under the sink in the kitchen. Some guests prefer to purchase bottled water from the supermarket for drinking.

Cars can be easily parked next to the garden gate.

A Pine Marten makes regular visits the cottage - looking for a treat from our guests. Usually, it visits the cottage at night, alone,but occasionally with other family members. They are highly entertaining to watch when perched on the window ledge of the sitting room ,enjoying small treats provided by our guests. (Extremely partial to jam sandwiches!).

Pine martens are shy creatures - but are happy to come close to the cottage when all is quiet and calm outside at night. (They have their den within the woods of Kenmore).

Thank you for allowing us to stay in this beautiful place a while longer.
This evening we saw a pod of dolphins in the bay, lovely to see.

We are having a lovely time here, the scenery is stunning and the wild life has been very interesting.
We have seen an eagle, buzzards and an otter feeding on a fish on the shore in front of the cottage. The pine martin has been a bit more elusive, helping it's self to our jam butties while we are asleep, but we keep looking in hope.

Many thanks for allowing us to extend our stay at the cottage. We hope to visit again soon.

Please note that the change over days are Saturday's - and the cottage is only rented out on a weekly basis.

Property rental periods are generally a week, Saturday to Saturday. Checking in time is 3pm and checking out time is 10am.

Booking deposit - 25%
Balance to be paid - 6 weeks prior to arrival.
