Salobrena ia a dazzling ancient white town clustered around a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea and a fertile valley. Sugar cane, avocados, mangoes and custard apples are cultivated here. Inland rise the peaks of the Sierra Nevada and water from these mountains is fed around the fields in irrigation channels built by the Moors. Below the main town there is a long beach with a wide promenade and a good selection of bars and restaurants.
The villa is a good base for visiting Granada and the Alhambra; the hill villages of the Alpujarras; the Lecrin Valley; the Sierra Nevada and mountains like Mulhacen and Trevenque; the water park at Almunecar; a variety of Andalucian fiestas and National Parks with excellent walking; Nerja Cave; the cave town of Guadix. Day trips are possible to Cordoba, Malaga's "Lake District" and Antequera with its dramatic Torcal scenery.
